Napa Cork Installation - page 3

Use a polyethylene film to protect flooring from sub floor moisture.
Cork planks will expand and contract due to climate condition just as all other wood
floors do. Always leave a 3/8" space between flooring and perimeter of walls to allow
for expansion.
NAPACORK INSTALLATION:
1. Lay 6-mil polyethylene sheet/film on sub floor. (Optional Step.) Run it up the wall 3”
and overlap seams 8”, then tape the sheets together. The cork planks will be
installed over this moisture barrier.
2. Cut the doorframes down, allowing the floor to fit below them.
3. Begin installation off perimeter wall using wedges to keep floor 3/8" from wall.
4. Start by placing panels left to right, so that the tongue of the first panel faces the
wall. Put the tongue of the next panel into the groove of first panel at a slight angle
and press lightly on the grooved panel. Then close the joint by tapping with a mallet
on a wood block held against the edge of the cork panel. (Do not hammer directly
on the panel.)
5. Cut the last panel of the first row and place this remaining piece at the beginning of
the second row and so on.
6. Use the remainder panel on the following rows. The last row should be at least 3
inches wide. Fit the panel lengthwise first and then close the joint using the mallet
and block on the grooved side, then join transversal ridges and grooves.
7. At the other side of the wall, place panel to be cut over last row and cut lengthwise.
Remember to leave 3/8" space, mark and cut off.
8. Fit the panel manually and close the joint on the last panel of the row by using a
crowbar and insert wedges between the floor and wall.
9. Take out wedges and cover outer gaps with a baseboard.
MAINTENANCE:
Do not wash for at least 5 days after installing your NapaCork flooring. Clean regularly with moist
cloth or vacuum. (CAUTION: Older style vacuum cleaners have beater bars that may damage
your NapaCork flooring). We recommend using damp or dry cleaning products. Do not use water
directly on the floor and avoid using excessive water.
Protect your NapaCork floor by attaching felt on the feet of furniture. Place mats at entrance
doors, in front of kitchen sinks, and under office chairs. Avoid rubber-backed mats or other non-
ventilated rugs/mats, as they could leave a sticky film on the floor. When possible, use drapes to
protect floor from excessive sunlight. Spills should be wiped up immediately.
Varnished tiles can be treated with a liquid polish (never wax) and buffed. To refinish, use a
buffing machine with 120 grit sanding screen to ruff up the finish, or rough up with a maroon pad
and then reapply additional coats of polyurethane. Water-based urethane with a high urethane
content is best. The life of the finish will last longer when it is maintained properly by cleaning off
gravel and dirt regularly.
With proper care and maintenance your NapaCork Floor should last a lifetime!
